Andy Wilkison

For Andy Wilkison, tennis is a family affair. He is eminently qualified to write on the sport of Tennis. Though slightly overshadowed by golf, tennis commands a storied history as long as golf in Pinehurst, NC. A native North Carolinian, born in the town of Shelby, he has played tennis at college and at amateur levels throughout the US and internationally. He played four years at NC State University in Raleigh with the team winning the ACC Championship his freshman year. He represented NC in the Southern Senior Cup and has played in amateur tournaments in England, Brazil, New Zealand and Japan. He is presently ranked #1 in NC in Men’s 45 and over singles and #5 in NC in Men’s Open singles.

For the past twenty-two years, Andy has served as the Village Manager for the Village of Pinehurst, a golf Mecca that will host both the Men’s and Women’s US Open Championships in 2014. He is married to Cathy Wilkison, a 3.5 league tennis player, and is the father of three: Sarah – 21, a senior at UNC Chapel Hill; Mary – 18, a sophomore at UNC Chapel Hill; and, Aaron – 16, a senior at Pinecrest High School and a member of the Pinecrest High School Tennis Team.

Andy’s brother Tim played on the International Professional Tennis Tour from 1977 to 1992, achieving a world-wide ranking of #21 in 1986 and recording wins over Pete Sampras, Boris Becker and Andre Agassi.
