Geoff Cutler

Geoff Cutler is a contributor to The Pilot Newspaper and Pine Straw Magazine, He is also a tree surgeon and owner of Cutler Tree, LLC in Southern Pines, North Carolina. He is the father of two college aged children and husband of Brooke, a special needs teacher. When they aren’t working, doing things with their kids, or spoiling their three grey cats rotten, Geoff and Brooke like to travel.

It was on an eye-popping trip to Haiti back in the 80’s when Geoff realized that if he didn’t get the experience down on paper, he’d forget the whole darn thing and then he wondered, what would be the point of that? For him, writing has become a memory tool as much as anything else and one day, if he lives that long, there will be a record of life, of friends and family, of far-away places, different cultures and events of the day that he can refer to when everything becomes a little dim. He says, “should anyone decide to read these chronicles, say a child or grandchild, that would be a bonus and maybe they’ll read something they didn’t know or forgot about.”

Born and raised in Boston, Geoff is a graduate of Boston College. After a brief stint in a suit and corner office, he decided he wasn’t cut out for a white collar job, although sometimes he now regrets it, especially with today’s college tuitions being what they are and he returned to the outdoors with his brother, also a tree surgeon.

Brooke wanted a slower life for the kids, so they packed bags and settled in Southern Pines just about the time the kids were entering pre-school. They’ve lived there ever since and have no plans to move.

If you’re looking for him, Geoff usually can be found in his Man Shed, where he does most of his writing, or swinging around in the canopies of Moore County’s Longleaf pines.
