Simon Blease, MD

Dr. Simon Blease, 51, trained as a doctor in the NHS at the Welsh National School of Medicine. After graduation in 1982, he entered service as a Medical Officer in the Royal Air Force. Following secondment to the NHS for specialist training as a radiologist, he went on to become Director of the RAF CT and MRI Center and was responsible for introducing the first MRI scanner into the British Armed Forces. He edited the journal Clinical MRI and was President of the Magnetic Resonance Radiologists Association (UK). He returned to the NHS following the closure of military hospitals in 1995. Three years later, he became the first full time Teleradiologist in the UK when he joined Med-Tel International, an entrepreneurial imaging venture based in McLean, VA. Ten years later, he is still with the company having seen it survive the dotcom bubble bursting, 9/11 and venture capital asset stripping. Now, based in London, MedTel has successful links with the NHS providing unique specialist imaging services to help the NHS meet strict targets for service delivery. He, thus, has both an inside and outside perspective of how the NHS works…or does not work… for patient’s interests.

Married for 26 years to Cathie, Simon spends his spare time mountain running, playing tennis, following rugby and Formula 1, but mainly enjoying seeing his three children venture forth into the adult world.
